How Many Promotional Products Do People Own? More Than You Think
It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when people say that promotional products don’t work. That they are just cheap giveaways that won’t last, when in fact, the evidence is all around them.
Go ahead, take a quick look around you. There are probably a few promotional products right now sitting on your desk. Whether it’s a pen, mouse pad, calendar or something else, there is something that we’ve picked up along the way that’s now part of our daily lives.
OK, now that I got you thinking, let’s take it one step further. If you were to take a look in your closest, don’t tell me that there isn’t a piece of clothing that that you received as a gift or giveaway that’s now part of your wardrobe. This may be the shirt you picked up at that half-marathon you set your personal best time at or the nice polo you won at your company’s annual golf outing.
The apparel doesn’t even necessarily have to have a personal connection with you. It could have been an item you picked up at Goodwill and really liked the logo or colors. It may be something you just picked up for free and thought it was really comfortable. And my personal favorite, maybe it just mysteriously made it into your closest and you could always use an extra shirt.
And then there’s everything else, those miscellaneous things that everyone needs and has, but doesn’t necessarily know exactly where to put them. Ahh, the beauty of the junk drawer. That drawer full of useful things you wouldn’t be able to find without it. This is where things like chip clips, magnets, tape measures, key chains, flashlights, and carabiners make it until we need to use them. The items we don’t necessarily go out and buy, but the things we accumulate over time, knowing they are valuable so we don’t throw them away, but might not need them this very minute.
So let’s debunk this myth! According to the ASI Global Impressions Study (2010), a bag is kept for approximately 6.7 month which results in 1,078 impressions/month, or 7223 impressions over the time the bag is kept. However, bags aren’t the only promotional item that people tend to hang on to. On average, a promotional product is kept for 5.4 months.
The reason for this is simple, the more useful the item, the longer the item will stick around. 75 percent of people keep a promotional product because it’s useful. Just another thing to think about when picking out your next great giveaway. Still unsure which product is right for you and your business?
